Local Boys & Girls Club Receives Visit from NFL Star Allen Robinson
Posted By:  Austin Alley
Wednesday, October 4, 2017

As an extension of his Within Reach Foundation’s outreach programming, Allen Robinson visited the Arlington Community Academy Boys & Girls Club on Tuesday evening for his Give Back Program. Robinson engaged with the members of the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida for over an hour, encouraging the youth to maintain active and healthy lifestyles while also speaking on the importance of focusing on education. In honor of their new commitment to living an active and healthy lifestyle, Robinson and the children signed Play 60 Pledge Certificates. Play 60 is a major initiative of the NFL that seeks to get children participating in physical activities for at least 60 minutes every day.

Robinson signed footballs and photographs for all of the children at the Give Back Program and personally spoke with each participant. He also organized a flag football game for the Boys & Girls Club members, wasting no time in beginning the fulfillment of their Play 60 pledges. It was as equally excited for Robinson to engage with the children as it was for the children to have an NFL star visit their Boys & Girls Club.

“(We’re) just trying to come out here and spend some time,” Robinson said. “And (we’re) playing flag football and donating some stuff for the Boys & Girls Club.”

Capping off the day, Robinson announced that the Within Reach Foundation has partnered with Academy Sports to provide $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida. Robinson, who is currently sidelined with a season-ending injury, has been a devout supporter of both the Boys & Girls Club and his own nonprofit charity, Allen Robinson’s Within Reach Foundation, for his entire professional career. While the injury has been a frustrating experience for the star wide receiver, it has given him the opportunity to dedicate even more time toward improving the community.

“It's tough, you know.” Robinson said of his ACL injury. “But that's something, really, I can't control. So for me when it comes to that, from the time I set foot in here in the spring, I gave it my all. Now I'm just trying to do what I can. (I’m) able to do a little bit more in the community now, so (I’m) just trying to make my rounds and do what I do.”

In addition to the Give Back Program on Tuesday, Robinson was joined by his Jaguars teammates on Monday night for the Allen Robinson’s Celebrity Surf & Turf fundraising event. Robinson and his teammates served as waiters for the event, engaging with fans and Foundation supporters at Jacksonville’s Epping-Forest Yacht Club. The event raised over $100,000 in support of the Within Reach Foundation’s community outreach programs, which includes a $20,000 donation by Robinson himself.

The goal of the Allen Robinson's Within Reach Foundation is to impact 5,000 students by the end of 2020 through all outreach programs.

Children who do not have access to self-selected books read at levels nearly 50-percent below their peers who have access to self-selected books.

Since joining the Bears in February of 2018, Allen has quickly become one of the most involved players in the Chicago community, receiving the Bears Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination and the Ed Block Courage Award.
